H.E.L.P., Inc. located at 53 S. Sixth Street has reorganized its warehouse and intake operation in order to continue giving out baskets of food from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
HELP’s nonprofit mission is to supplement a monthly basket of food to low-income individuals/families living in the communities between Calimesa and Cabazon, California. During the COVID-19 epidemic, the food pantry welcomes anyone who comes to the site even if their address is outside of the designated zip codes. Under normal conditions, the monthly clients arrive by car, present their photo ID and appointment card. They are checked in and given an appointment for the following month. Clients receive a grocery cart filled with a variety of frozen, fresh and canned groceries. Currently, no one is turned away for a one-time basket of food. Every effort is made to give out-of-the-area folks a contact where they may connect with a food pantry closer to where they live. Homeless people may come for a “transient bag” of food every 7 days. HELP receives food from USDA and then purchases additional food products using the funds received from outside donations.
Board president Al Silva stated, “HELP’s current volunteers are abiding under the COVID-19 guidelines outlined by the Governor, enabling their mission to continue ─ supplementing food to low-income individuals and families who are in need of food." Silva continued, “The food pantry has been operating in Banning for over 20 years. To everyone who has been supporting our nonprofit with kind and generous monetary donations, please know you have our grateful thanks!”
